Therapy Sessions

For over 25 years I have supported people struggling with challenging life experiences, mental health struggles, and complicated relationships. I can be a thought partner for people who need someone outside of their daily lives to help find solutions to tough situations. Having a connection with a trusted, supportive person is the way people begin to heal, think clearly, and improve their well-being.

As a graduate of The University of Tennessee with a Master of Science in Social Work and a B. A. in Psychology, I have extensive training and experience in mental health, social work and counseling. My private practice focuses on the needs of older adolescents and adults of any age.

I am Certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT), and use an eclectic approach with therapeutic techniques. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems, Positive Psychology and incorporate psychodynamic, attachment-based, strengths-based and solution-focused perspectives.

I offer in-person sessions at my Germantown, TN office and online sessions for residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Getting Started

Finding a good match with a therapist is a big step towards feeling better in your daily life.  As a therapist, I want my clients to feel understood, supported and comfortable. I work with older teens, college students, and adults of all ages.

At my office in Germantown, I offer a private, comfortable setting where you can relax and talk through your thoughts and concerns. Together, we will develop a plan to meet your needs. For people who prefer virtual sessions, including college students away from home, that service is available on a HIPAA compliant platform.

Fee for services:

I offer private pay sessions at $160 for 50 minute sessions with individual clients. With private pay, a diagnosis it not required for sessions. Payment is expected at the time of appointment and cash, credit cards, and electronic payments are accepted. Cancellations are expected within 24 hours of the appointment time. Clients who miss appointments are charged half of the session fee. Clients may use the Simple Practice client portal for paperless documents and secure billing. https://pam-shumake.clientsecure.me

Insurance Reimbursements:

A receipt can be given for you to submit for reimbursement with your Health Savings Accounts, or you may use your HSA card at the time of your appointment. You may file for reimbursement with your insurance company for an "out-of-network provider." It is likely this means that insurance will reimburse at a lower rate than they would for an "in-network" provider. If it is important for you to know what your insurance will cover, I advise that you contact them first. By not being on insurance panels, I have more flexible scheduling and availability for my clients because my practice remains small. If you are going to submit receipts to your insurance company for reimbursement, the receipt will have all the information needed to process the claim. In order for insurance companies to consider a claim, they require a diagnostic code from the DSM-5 Diagnostic manual.

Good Faith Estimate Disclosure

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good FaithEstimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 901-300-9157.
